January 17, 2009 ~ Sale Results ~ by Dan PiroutekTri State Livestock News 92 yearling Bulls Avg $3595
Redland Angus hosetd another big crowd for their annual January Range Calved - Range Raised Genetics ~ Calving Ease Bull Sale. With the Redland philosophy of "range calved - range raised" genetics they need to have predictable sires that calve easy and leave a quality product. Eighty of the bulls in this year's offering contained the influence of OCC Emblazon 854E. They do this for one simple reason - these genetics excel in their environment in a dominant way. They strive for moderately framed cows that are easy doing. productive, have good udders, and have exceptional mothering ability. The weather on sale day was beautiful and the crowd was very aggressive on this set of calving ease bulls. Top selling bull of the day was Lot #53 selling to Clark Ranch. This son of OCC Missing Link 830M was out of a daughter of Papa Forte 1921 and sold for $6000. He had a 76# birth weight and a weaning wt of694#. His EPD's were +14 CED, -1.2 BW, +40 WW, +16 Milk, & +66. His marbling score was 5.5 and he had a REA/CWT of 1.31. The 43 Ranch bought Lot #56 for $5,500. He was a Redland Moderator 838, a son of OCC Moderator 825M, and out of a daughter of OCC Homer. With a 68# birth weight and a waning weight of 643#, he posted EPD's of +14 CED, -2.7 BW, +37 WW, +14 Milk, and +66 YW Lot #2 found a new home with Kissacks' when the gavel fell at $5250. He weighed in at 900# on sale day and was an own son of OCC Emblazon 854E. Out of a daughter of Paramont Ambush 2127, he had a 76# birth weight, with a weaning weight of 670#. EPD's included +11 CED, +0.6 BW, +40 WW, +10 Milk, and +63 YW. Otter Creek selected Lot #23 at $5250. He was a son of OCC Emblazon 854E and out of a daughter of Redland Forte 210. He hit the ground at 75#, weaned at 718#, and posted EPD's of +12 CED, +0.0 BW, +43 WW, +12 Milk, and +73 YW. It was a very fast and aggressive sale with a host of bulls selling at $5000. A total of 92 bulls sold in a little less than an hour! And remember, the noon meal at Redland's is always worth the trip! My brother has been doing it for years!
